The Island Athletic Club was established in 1987 by John Murphy who had been the Fitness Director and Assistant General Manager at Merit Annapolis Fitness Center in Annapolis.

Class Descriptions:

Body Blast - an intense class that will challenge your cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance, by using hand handle weights and a step

Boot Camp - This class is designed to get you moving like never before. This class has Military written all over it. Push ups, Jacks, squats, mountain climbers you name it, it's probably in this class. Strong Mind, Strong Body.

C.H.I.S.E.L. - (Create huge increase in strength, endurance and leanness). A total body workout using all equipment except for the step.

Killer X Training - Prepare to be taken to the limit in this boot camp style strength class. Non-stop cardio using all equipment. Step may be used in this class.

Pilates - This class is designed to tone and elongate your body and muscles, flatten your abs and improve body mechanics. It refines your breathing pattern while it strengthens your core.

Rock Body - Combines upper and lower body moves while utilizing and building stabilization. No fancy step moves in this class, just weights and reps!!!!

Women w/ Balls - Fun! Fun! Fun! Using basic cardio moves on an exercise ball as well as on the floor.

Yoga - A maximum body conditioning class that emphasizes strength and flexibility through balance, agility, power, coordination and concentration. Strong fluid movements as the mind and body connect to develop more functional strength.
